Christmas Special!

Raider Pilots,

I, Christopher Cook, President and CFII, feel like we Raider Pilots need to fly more often. From December 15 through January 15, I will be waiving my instructor fee for Texas Tech students who are also PAID RPA members. Therefore, you will only have to pay for the airplane rental fee ($100 hour wet).

Time to start flying folks!

P.S. A couple of people have asked: you don’t have to fly for an hour, you can bring $25 and just try a couple of landings if you’d like! Come fly with me!

You can check our CALENDAR here in the menu bar to see when we’re flying, or click here.

Veterans Day at the Silent Wings Museum

20121112-144608.jpg

Raider Pilots showed up from all over West Texas to participate in the Silent Wings Museum Veterans Day event.

Many RPA members had never seen the museum before, but they plan on coming back in the future.

The museum tells the tale on how many glider pilots that were eventually sent to WW2 were initially trained here in Lubbock, and sometimes at Texas Tech University.

Our flying club may not have roots that long, but the flying spirit at Texas Tech continues on today with the Raider Pilot Association!

Raider Pilot Heart Walk 2012

Raider Pilot Heart Walk 2012!

The Raider Pilots Association is participating in the Lubbock Heart Walk 2012.As pilots, Heart Disease can directly effect us more than any other condition. This strikes often where it hurts pilots the most, the AME authorized medical. Without our medical, we are not legally allowed to fly.  While cancer and other genetic diseases are also a concern, Heart Disease is a preventable condition. We are walking on Saturday, @ 10am @ Spirit Ranch so that we can promote awareness of Heart Disease within West Texas, and especially our own pilot community. Please click the Register Now button if you are planning on going. It is free to do so, and helps the Raider Pilots Association grow our brand. We have 4 already registered, and are looking for more. If you are unable to go but wish to make a donation, you can do that as well by clicking here or the picture in the header of this email.

You can also register the day of the event to be a part of our ‘team.’ No need to pre-register, but it would be nice in case we could win a prize.

Thanks,

ATW

PS- We took 6 people to the CAF Airsho in Midland, Texas and had a great time. CLICK here to take a look at our pictures!

Meeting – October 7th @ 2pm

Hey everyone! We got rained out of our last meeting due to thunderstorms and 90+mph winds.
Let’s meet up at the airport at 5pm on Sunday and get our officers officially elected and get a game plan for the rest of the semester. We might even take a few people flying who have never been up before!

Other topics will include discussing an agreement with Hub City Aviation for a reduced rental price for RPA members, and other items such as a community service project that will help us get our name out around town.

Food and tall-tales about expert aviation skills to follow the meeting at a restaurant of the groups choosing! Remember to bring your $35 dues. OR I’ll swipe your debit card with my iphone.

Here are the directions from Texas Tech University. Pay special attention to where we are going to meet up. I will have my White Durango out front that has a Raider Pilots Association sticker on the back!

Hub City Aviation Fly-In!

Tara with Guns Up!

Well, I’m proud to say we came home with 3 trophies from the Hub City Aviation fly-in in Lubbock, Texas.

We won:

Oldest Pilot that flew in
Youngest Pilot that flew in
Most actual people flown into the fly in.

It really helps when you have two fully loaded Saratogas, and a Cherokee 140 loaded with 3 people.

Have a couple of pictures. Remember, first meeting is on Wednesday September 12th @ 5:30 – followed by a beer/drink social at a restaurant of our choosing.
